Bargains, Bargains Everywhere!!

As the time approaches to go back to school, a funny thing happens ~ my bank account gets awfully small as the list of things I need to buy gets bigger! Added to this phenomena this year, I am setting up a classroom at my new school.  Although I have purchased a LOT of things over the years, much of what I had at my old school was purchased by the district and, therefore, stayed behind.

So this year I am working on the "cheap teacher on a budget" idea during my shopping.  Two particular stores are definitely my friend lately.

First off is Staples.  I have known in the past that Staples did 1 cent sales but never really paid much attention to it.  Last week a friend told me that teachers aren't limited to 2 items, they can get up to 25, provided you spend a minimum of $5 on other things.  Well sign me up!!!

This is a picture of last week's deals.  I had trouble finding everything in stock so I ended up getting:

  • 19 bottles of glue
  • 8 pkgs of pencil top erasers
  • 2 pkgs of Post-It flags
  • 1 hole punch
  • 2 packages of 5-count Sharpies
  • A cube with 300 sticky notes
My total price was $6.34!!

Here are today's buys.  I got there just a few minutes after the store opened so everything was in stock.  I bought:
  • 25 pkgs of index cards
  • 25 pkgs of Sharpie highlighters
  • 25 pkgs of 8-count pencils
  • 2 notebooks, with plastic covers (in really great colors!)
  • 2 pkgs of Pen-tel pens
  • 1 pkg of mechanical pencils
  • 2 pkgs of Avery tabbed dividers
My total price was $6.31.  I figured out the regular price of everything and the total, with tax, would have been $113.30.  I saved $106.99!!!!

And the best part about today's trip to Staples was the awesome manager, Kris G., who helped me find what I needed and was so sweet and glad to be helping out teachers.

My other favorite store is ROSS Dress For Less, usually for clothes and shoes, but this week I have scored some activities for my class.  Like I said, many of my things had to stay behind so I was looking to add to my collection of games/activities.  Yesterday I found these at ROSS:

I got 5 games for $4.99 each and normally they are between $12 and $20.  I also got a math dry-erase activity for $6.99, regular priced $9.95 and a floor puzzle for $5.99.

I've also been stocking up on things to decorate my room, as well as functional items, but I'll leave that for another day . . .
